Senior Plant Manager

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Plant Manager, who reports directly to the Executive Vice President, will oversee, and guide all operational activities for a specific manufacturing business unit. This role is crucial in cultivating and promoting a culture that places a high value on personnel through open and transparent communication, ensuring active employee participation. The Plant Manager will spearhead efforts towards continuous improvement, safety and cost reduction, while also assessing and allocating both human and financial resources to support the strategic plan effectively.  

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS 

  • 7-10 years experience in a leadership role within a progressive manufacturing environment. 
  • Degree / Diploma or equivalent work experience. 
  • Experience and knowledge of Lean Manufacturing practises and disciplines 
  • Must be proficient with MS office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word). 
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate and understand technical concepts. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate problems, and how solutions will affect others. Gather information prior to making decisions, weigh alternatives against objectives, and arrive at a reasonable solution. 
  • Must be able to adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and directions. 
  • Strong leadership skills providing clear expectations and responsibilities 
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime as required 
  • Must be a strong team player and able to work well with team members at all levels of the organization. 
  • Maintenance or mechanical skills would be considered an asset 
  • French and/or Spanish speaking would be considered an asset  

  

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide direction and guidance for overall manufacturing facility operations. Guide development and deployment of annual business plans and annual budget.    
  • Ensure culture and values are continually supported and enhanced through leadership example. Direct all aspects of the manufacturing facility communications to insure employees understand their respective role in attaining business goals.  Communicate annual plan, change to plan and progress to strategic objectives.   
  • Maintain or develop progress reports to objectives and key metrics to Executive Vice President 
  • Improve preventive quality, customer delivery service and reduce costs utilizing knowledge of Continuous Improvement (CI) program and internal resources.  Lead cost reductions and continuous improvement initiatives in the plant.  Participate on management, improvement, and project teams.   
  • Ensure the Plant operations and policies are compliant with Company policy and applicable federal and state regulations. 
  • Act as a liaison between the Plant and other Departments within the Assembled Patio Door (APD) division, along with corporate headquarters. 
  • Act as a liaison between the Plant and external Customers; ability to develop and foster customer and sales relationships  
  • Inventory management reporting and cycle counts.  Accuracy, aging and inventory turn management.  
  • Monthly Operating Report (MOR) submissions  monthly task  
  • Scheduling and Past Due oversight, management and reporting daily tasks 
  • KPI management (Plant On-Time & Complete, Customer On-Time & Complete, Direct Labour %, Inventory Management targets, Operational Expenses) 
  • Execute Strategic Plan initiatives outlined in Company Annual Plan  

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES 

  • Ability to lead people in a team environment and work cross functionally.   
  • Ability to support project implementations (Plant and R&D) and Continuous Improvement initiatives.   
  • Follow verbal and written instructions. 
  • Inventory management and cycle counts 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and respond quickly to changing priorities. 
  • Ability to contribute innovative and constructive ideas for improvement. 

 

AUTHORITY 

  • To reject product due to poor quality / quality defects. 
  • To determine disposition of a non-conforming product (e.g. rework, scrap, etc.). 
  • Inspect and determine that reworked product is suitable for re-release. 
  • Accept or reject material based on quality 
  • Hiring and termination of employees 
  • To approve vacation requests 
  • To shift the plant load as required 
  • Profit & Loss (P&L) management
