Job Description

Position Purpose


The Maintenance Mechanic supports the operational effectiveness of the production department by responding to breakdown calls, trouble shooting, analyzing and repairing mechanical equipment. The Maintenance Mechanic continuously promotes safety in the work area by understanding and complying with all established safety policies and procedures.


Major/key accountabilities


Understands and adheres to all Company policies and procedures.

Understands and adheres to all safety policies and procedures to prevent injury to self and others.

Ensures safe working practices are followed and all accidents, hazards, near misses, and property damage are reported immediately and required paperwork is completed (self and colleagues).

Ensures the maintenance and common areas are organized and clean in preparation for the next shift (sweeping, cleaning, wipe-downs, garbage, etc).

Sustains high standard of time-management, quality, accuracy, and neatness of work; frequency of errors should be very uncommon.

Acquires knowledge and skills required to effectively use CMMS for work order assignments, work order completion, pm development, spare part inventory, preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, capital projects, corrective work and managing parts through cycle counts.

Possesses ability to complete repairs of all manufacturing equipment, including the fabrication and mechanical scope of all repairs.

Demonstrates ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical prints for working systems, to dismantle, repair, and re-assemble gear boxes, extruders, fans, belt conveyors, blowers, compressors, pumps, valves, drives and all mechanical equipment.

Demonstrates ability to provide limited electrical support: 208/480V devices including but not limited to, motor starters, VFD s, PLC s, pumps, conveyor motors, transformers, etc

Plays an active role in contractor assigned duties, helping in the scope of work to be done in mechanical areas

Performs preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance as defined by the Plant Engineer ensuring that any potential failure findings are shared and addressed proactively. For PdM done by third party, must be engaged with them while they are on the route.

Demonstrates attentiveness and sense of urgency to all assignments, knowing the impact of downtime to production team.

Demonstrates awareness and acts accordingly to ensure spare part consideration is being shared with the Plant Engineer; maintains relationships with key equipment and spare part suppliers, including technical support; adheres to the spare parts program to ensure efficient repair with minor delays to production.

Becomes knowledgeable in failure modes of our asset classes, responding to breakdown trouble calls and bringing machines to their proper running state, including troubleshooting, diagnosing and fixing problems.

Becomes proficient in the use of IR and Ultrasound (vacuum, flow, leaks, obstructions, etc.) technologies for PdM applications.

Assists with and provide training on maintenance processes and best practices for new hires.

Demonstrates sense of urgency in completion of daily tasks, offering assistance to others, and being responsive to changes in customer orders.

Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Understands and adheres to Time & Attendance Policy, reporting to work punctually, minimal unplanned/unscheduled absences and early departures, and reporting for mandatory overtime as needed.

Engages in continually identifying ways to improve tasks and processes to ensure consistent, reliable, and sustainable results.

Takes accountability for job performance and seeks opportunities to learn and develop skills.

Provides information for shift notes, problems encountered, and corrective actions taken.

Communicates with Supervisor to address any need for improvement.

Demonstrates effective and timely communication with other Operations department team members.

Respectfully communicates with and listens to all employees and promotes team environment.


Skills:

  • Ability to understand basic math.
  • Must possess basic computer navigational skills.
  • Must be able to read and write English.
  • Responsible for the safety of others in the performance of job duties.
  • Must be organized and possess a forward thinking and planning mindset.
  • Must be dependable and have good attendance record
  • Must be prepared to work mandatory weekend overtime when required.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations effectively and ability to resolve conflicts and problems.
  • Must have good communication skills and the assertiveness to keep on top of documentation requirement.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility, the willingness to look beyond the job description and assist in doing what must be done in a growing company.
  • Ability to work in a positive and productive team environment.
  • Expert user of CMMS and TPM
  • Experience with: VFD installation, programming, welding, PLC troubleshooting, PLC ladder diagram interpretation, 208/480V motor and drive replacement/set-up, mechanical drives, extrusion/compounding/injection molding equipment
